The 2010 Transformation Audit, entitled Vision or Vacuum?, was launched in Cape Town on 24 February 2011 with an address by Deputy Auditor-General Thembekile Makwetu. 2009 Reconciliation Award

This year, the IJR was honoured and delighted to present its annual Reconciliation Award to lifelong activist and former constitutional court judge Albie Sachs. The award was handed over by IJR Patron and Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, with a tribute to Sachs provided by Justice Yvonne Mokgoro.

Introducing the Reconciliation Award, IJR Executive Director Fanie du Toit commented that “in an era in which human rights and reconciliation are often seen as opposites, Albie Sachs’ life and work has shown that these goals are closely related. The achievement of each depends on the other. We honour Albie for his contribution to reconciliation, unwavering even in the face of intense personal sacrifice.”
