Ariel Dorfman delivers Nelson Mandela annual lecture

The IJR’s Expert Dialogue on Measuring Reconciliation is rapidly approaching – and it seems our timing could not have been better! The importance of discussing and debating progress in reconciliation is on the minds of many South Africans at the moment.

I recently had the privilege of attending a dialogue in Cape Town entitled Suspect Reconciliation – it was hosted by the Nelson Mandela Foundation and a very interesting conceptualisation by Njabulo Ndebele is available here.

The event featured a compelling and thought-provoking conversation between internationally-acclaimed author and activist Ariel Dorfman, and four young South African writers who have explored reconciliation through fiction and personal narrative.

Dorfman subsequently delivered the eight Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture – video and full text of the lecture are available here, and are well worth a look!
